Six feelings.
Five AI models. The same six emotions. Purely abstract.
For Round 3, every model was asked to paint six feelings in the same order: joy, calm, fear, longing, wonder and anger. No people, objects or landscapes, only color, shape, line and texture. Abstract art suits the test, because a feeling can’t be drawn literally. Every model has to make the color and form do the work.
Below, each feeling gets its own row, so you can compare how five different AIs imagined the same emotion.

The prompt
Same words
for everyone.
Claude wrote the prompt. Each model received it word for word, in a fresh chat.
How it was run
- Meta AI, Gemini and Grok were run on their free plans.
- ChatGPT’s free plan hit its daily image limit before it could start, so ChatGPT was run on ChatGPT Plus ($20 a month) with the GPT-6 Astra Light model.
- Claude was run on Claude Pro ($20 a month). Claude doesn’t generate images, so its pieces were written as code (SVG).
- The only follow-up allowed was asking for the next image. Titles and captions are each model’s own, unedited.
Full disclosure: Claude also wrote this prompt, and made its set in an ongoing conversation. Claude also replaced its first “Calm,” which looked like a seascape and broke the no-landscapes rule. Claude’s original SVG code for each piece: Joy, Calm, Fear, Longing, Wonder, Anger.

For the first time, all five models produced a full set of six. Grok made its images in portrait rather than square format, and wrote no titles or captions even when told the set was complete, so its pieces are labeled by feeling.

Joy
Most models reached for a burst from a bright center. Gemini and ChatGPT broke away with loose, playful swirls of color.
Uncontained Delight
Luminous colors and buoyant curves tumble together in an exuberant rhythm.
Sunburst Laughter
Radiating yellow and coral circles burst outward in a celebration of pure, weightless uplift.
Radiant Burst and Upward Flow
A spontaneous explosion of light and warm color, celebrating the unfiltered energy and upward momentum of pure happiness.
Everything Rising at Once
Ribbons and flecks of warm color burst upward from one bright center, as if happiness couldn’t stay contained.

Calm
The split: some models drifted toward soft horizontal bands that read almost like landscapes, while ChatGPT and Gemini found calm in pure overlapping shapes.

Fear
No shared palette here. Red and black, cold navy, and a sickly yellow-green all appeared, but nearly every model closed the space in around a small light.

The most surprising agreement of the round: almost every model drew faint lines reaching toward something they never touch.

Wonder
Nearly every model reached for spirals and starlight, even with landscapes ruled out. ChatGPT’s prismatic petals are the exception.

What Round 3 showed
Some feelings
look the same.
Anger has one face.
Every model, free or paid, image or code, painted anger as red and black colliding on the diagonal. It seems to be the most universal visual language of the six.
Longing surprised us.
Without comparing notes, almost every model drew faint lines reaching toward something just out of reach.
Wonder still means space.
Even with landscapes ruled out, most models went to spirals, stars and galaxies.
Calm and fear show the most personality.
These were the feelings where the models disagreed most, and where their own styles came through.
A clear prompt helps everyone.
Gemini, which struggled most in Round 1, followed every rule this time.
